Default WinPC Virus
So, clicking along through websites, I clicked on some link before I had the chance to realise what I was doing. Long story short, it seemed to download this virus. I got rid of the virus and no longer have WinPC icons/pop ups and have run a few scans and nothing more is coming up with that, so yay.

However, while using Internet Explorer, every third site or so a 'Warning' appears in the browser saying that if I want to continue I should download WinPC or continue to the website unprotected. Short of reinstalling Internet Explorer, how do I stop this?

try either of these:

Remove WinPC Defender, removal instructions
How to remove WinPC Defender

Or google winpc, there seems to be no end of sites offering instructions and programs to get rid of it

Oh man, I got this on my computer at work, was a total pain in the arse. In the end they just gave me a new computer and took the old one away to be wiped or somthing.
