Default Windows Media Player 11

Has anyone updated their version of WMP recently? I've just done it...and I really don't like it. Not only has it deleted most of my playlists (which are kinda useful for DJing with, when it comes to making compilation albums etc.) but it seems to have forsaken listing songs track-by-track in favour of a folder-based system where each band has its own icon. Not impressed.

Still better than bloody iTunes, though...

Heh, funny because I much prefer WMP 11 compared to 10 and I prefer iTunes to both of them (although on my Macbook I don't have much choice but to go for iTunes).

Don't understand why it would delete your playlists. I do know when you upgrade to WMP 11 it re-builds the library so it maybe just needs to re-scan the folder(s) where your playlists are stored.

What do you mean by this folder system?

I'll probably get used to it just like the new Internet Explorer

Maybe I've just got to get used to it, I'll probably grow to love it, but the playlists have definitely gone. Great. Next time I have to re-do a CDR that's suffered a spillage/severe scratch/general DJ abuse I'll have to do it manually instead of just burning the appropriate playlist. Pain in the arse.

The default setting gives you a screen that looks a lot like your "My Music" folder. I've managed to change it back to something approaching old WMP, but I still have album art that I don't need taking up important parts of the screen that could be showing me useful info like "date created" and "file type".

Every time I've updated it it gives me the old list format, which is all I want. I can't get rid of the album art, it won't let me uncheck the relevant box in the "View" options section.

I like it, but I'm used to it and I don't use it for DJ purposes. It sometimes has trouble getting all the right files in the right albums and stuff but I have dedicated my life to rearranging files the way I want them so I quite like that. I like the thing that shows how far the track you are, like a blue bullet speeding - or inching - its way across the screen. (Think that was in WMP 10 but not 9)

However, my hi-tech computer orientated friends at uni having been having a go at my lossy audio (AGH I can hear the bitrate from here!) and I have to use Winamp or VLC to listen to their files (yeah yeah wateva flac codec 4 wmp but i don' wan dat). In fact, does anyone does how to rip into flacs using Winamp? It says it will but I can't get it to work...

What happened to Winamp 4?
You're not imagining things. Yes, we skipped a version number for the following reasons:

* Who the hell wants to see a Winamp 4 Skin
