![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | So what you're saying is that you guys are spanners? It doesn't really matter whether you don't like those terms because unfortunately if your band have emo-haircuts and wear cannibal corpse t-shirts and play music that spans the hardcore, metal and death metal genres... then you are prime candidates for being labelled a deathcore band. I'm sure Michael Jackson doesn't like the term 'mincing boy-hungry paedophile', but if you fuck kids.... And I'm afraid a little tapping guitar-lick and some minor-third hammer-ons every now and again does not make music "tech". Perhaps it's more tech than the kids in your school that have just learned to play James Blunt songs on an acoustic guitar. But in this day and age, in metal music, the sort of music you play is actually very simple. That beatdown at 1:55 for example.... it has been written by EVERY other deathcore band ever. Pretty much the whole song is in 4/4, one key, with nothing particularly offbeat or polymetric going on. No guitar solos or anything spectacular on any instrument. When I listen to Decapitated, Meshuggah, Dream Theater and Necrophagist, none of whom label themselves as 'tech', and then some kids come along playing what you guys do and use that term as a selling point for your band it makes cringe a little, and instantly think 'n00bs'. But having said all that, you'll probably go down well with all the kids that like beatdown-friendly deathcore which there are a lot of these day, because you're clearly not a rubbish band. Just to pick apart some of your influences, these are some of the most stereotypically metalcore and deathcore bands there are!! You don't even list a single hardcore band in your influences, so to say you span the hardcore genre, but not deathcore or whatever is ridiculous. Parkway Drive - metalcore I Killed The Prom Queen - metalcore Suicide Silence - so, so, deathcore Whitechapel - deathcore Bring Me The Horizon - so utterly deathcore Job For A Cowboy - bree bree bree bree bree! deathcore to the max Just call yourselves a metalcore/deathcore band and at least people won't then expect something that they totally don't get. So what if they're dirty words, if you enjoy playing what you do then you shouldn't give a fuck. Last edited by Dan G; 25-06-2009 at 12:11.. |
