Dear all,

You may have already signed this and passed it on (thank you so much!!), but if not, we would really appreciate your help in getting the message out, as time is running out for us rapidly.

SAVE UNION TERRACE GARDENS AND ABERDEEN'S NEW CENTRE FOR CONTEMPORARY ART

Peacock has spent 10 years developing plans for a new home that will become one of Scotland's major cultural centres and have raised £9.5millon and gained full planning permission for the development. However, (and despite Aberdeen City Council being about to put in a bid to be UK city of culture) Peacock's plan for a new arts centre for Aberdeen is under threat.

Oil Magnate Sir Ian Wood recently announced a plan to create 8 acres of new real estate in the city centre, to create a large civic square and an underground car park.
In order to do this he needs to concrete over Union Terrace Gardens, the city centre's only public park and the site of the Peacock development. He expects Aberdeen City Council to help by handing over the land and for the public purse to provide at least £50 million to match his own contribution towards the development. If his plan goes ahead it will involve the felling around 100 trees and the loss of Peacock's planned new public arts centre.

Peacock's centre was designed to be sympathetic to Union Terrace Gardens by retaining its green space. As Sir Ian Wood's proposal involves filling in the Gardens in their entirety, they cannot co-exist.

Please help us to convince the City that the people do not want to lose the Gardens as a beautiful piece of our environmental heritage, and Peacock as a vital part of our cultural future.

Please sign the petition now and help build the pressure:

A move to scale back Aberdeen’s Hogmanay celebrations to save money has been approved, meaning the annual street party is being scaled down.

Acts such as The Proclaimers and Travis have brought in the New Year at concerts at the Castlegate in previous years.

Councillors considered a report on Tuesday suggesting it was no longer financially viable for such a show with such big stars and have decided to put on form their own band with local celebrities. Charlie Allan may not be the best looking or have a great voice but does a great rendition of ‘Fairy Tail of New York’ on the spoons. He will be joined onstage by Martin Ford (Donald the wig trumps adversary) who can play the paper-comb while doing a river dance like Michael Flatley.

However the star for the show and taking up most of the budget is the Return of the Tango Man. Jimmy Calderwood has spent just over £438,599 (about half of his Aberdeen pay-off) in the last 4 months on sun beds and cheesy salons and is need for some more wonga. Famous for his musical farts he adds that missing ingredient to complete the band, and also provides an alternative fuel to roast your horse chestnuts.

Instead of a Hogmanay fireworks display it has been agreed Jimmy will let one rip at Midnight......

I've found myself shaking my head more and more whenever I hear/see the news lately. Here's a couple of stories that have really shocked me/pissed me off recently...

BBC NEWS | UK | England | Merseyside | Boys bailed over anti-gay attack

Young lad minding his own business outside a club in Liverpool set upon by up to 20 thugs and hospitalised because he's gay. Fucking unbelievable.

The Big Question: Why are pupils making so many false allegations against teachers? - Education News, Education - The Independent

The story about pupils making false claims against teachers really pissed me off. At what point did we start taking the word of these little shitbags over that of teachers? I remember when I was a kid, if I got in trouble from a teacher and so much as breathed a word of it to my parents I'd have got in more trouble. If I tried to protest my innocence, or say the teacher was being in anyway unfair, my parents would always believe the teacher cos, well, they were the teacher and I was a fucking kid. These little bastards (and more so the parents who believe their every word) are ruining careers of teachers, and scaring so many people off of that career choice in the first place, it's ridiculous. An inherent lack of discipline in our country is evident, and something needs to be done. My wife is a teacher, but I'm so glad she's in primary schools, rather than in the Academy with these little conniving bastards.

What is the bloody world coming to...
