'short sharp bursts of spazzy, jazzy, off-kilter post-punk - immediately afterwards the crowd turn and look at each other as if to say “whoa..what was that?!”...
'With the same urgency of early Fugazi or Nation of Ulysses, the rhythmic thrust of Sweep The Leg Johnny and the tightly controlled chaos of a free-jazz combo off their faces on something nasty, over the course of two short sharp electric shock's Newcastle's Paper Cut Out stake their claim as one of the most exciting new bands in the post punk underground. Second track 'less a roof, more a ceiling' is pretty much recorded live and more invigorating than anything a band with a producer and a budget could come with. Smells like revolution here' Kerrang support from Belfasts LaFaro www.myspace.com/lafaro www.jealousrecords.com SAT 18TH FEB *somewhere in aberdeen* more details to follow DiZZY SToRM shows

Paper Cut Out, then. An unknown package from Newcastle, England. Having only released two songs thus far on 7” via Jealous Records, this is a relatively new band which has burst onto the post-punk scene of late, forming from the ashes of Skip Day Toner. First song is a short sharp burst of spazzy, jazzy, off-kilter post-punk - immediately afterwards the crowd turn and look at each other as if to say “whoa..what was that?!”.
It’s obviously something special. To say this band have stage presence would be doing them an injustice, these guys have venue presence. Constantly moving and intensely passionate. They’re rocking out and they’re loving it. So are we. I can’t think of a valid comparison for their sound: a little Sweep The Leg Johnny, a little Fugazi, a little Gang Of Four. Fast, tight, innovative. Astounding. If only it’d lasted longer. Clocking off after around 25 minutes, this is still one of the most enjoyable sets I’ve EVER seen. Belfast three piece Lafaro bust onto the stage in ferocious form. Sounding a bit like McLusky strung out on Shellac and The Jesus Lizard, they have many riffs and a huge presence. A set coming down with new songs, occasionally punctuated by older tunes like ‘Climate’ or the fantastic set-closer ‘Scott’, go down well.
The standard of musicianship is second to none, and it’s pretty easy to get lost in the virtuosity at times, but the aural assault makes it all feel wholly genuine. And we’re all loving that drummer. taken from http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland...05lafaro.shtml |

local support comes from
sirdancelot killed his mother www.valentinebitch.co.uk Masamune played their last show on the 20th August 2005 at Gavfest 2 : Party Monster. A band who went through members in an almost Spinal Tap fashion. The only two original members who were in it from the start, Gavin Will and Alastair Chivers, were in it to the end when the band were forced to change their name after being threatened with a lawsuit. Sirdancelot... has emerged from the ashes with yet another reshuffle. Now a three piece which sees Gavin moving from guitar to drums and the introduction of a new bass player going by the name of Stuart Maxwell. The tender trio aim to recapture the spirit of the mune in it's prime, slow it down, kick it to shreds, and glue it together with slint and cat on form-esque ramblings and shamblings. |
