I can't believe I only went to Drakes 5 times!!! Your list seems like a lot of fun, Kirk!
Seeing as you thought Brehznev were so amazing, you could spell their name right...
You hitting yourself in the head was a mic was one of my best moments - I remember trying to keep a straight face but failing. And the dancing to Gilman Street that night was hilarious!
I'm ashamed I missed so many bands there that I would've went to see: Real McKenzies, Independents, Brezhnev, Consumed, Fighting Shit, Eat Yer Greens, Filthpact, Dangerfields... at least I might get to see some of those bands elsewhere in the future though. Aargh, should've gone there more often!!!! I only actually knew of its existence about a year ago! Duhh!

my memories mostly include

all the great gigs we did there
- especially the All-Dayers

The 1st ever AUBL gig was at the old drakes (sirius, quik, bad karma)

and the 1st ever AUBL All-Dayer was on Dec 29th 2001 (which was also metal militia and hot mangu's 1st ever gig...)
it also featured 48k, de Barros, Psycho a go-go (acoustic), Black Atom, Liber8, FeSTR
and probably someone else i've fogotten.. Deadloss maybe..? i dunno

one of our all-dayers was supposed to be the opening weekend of Dr. Drakes
but it turned out to be the last ever gig at the old drakes (nero were the last band on)

it felt quite strange saying goodbye to a 2nd drakes the other week...

i remember when i paid dr. drakes a visit one time when it was still being put together
lot's of painting and wiring going on... then the opening night with inept 303 and stuff when they couldnt serve any alcohol and we all got free punch!
and subsequently very drunken...

AUBL Poll:ution gigs
which were both awesome i seem to remember...

Doing the lights for HMG, Black Atom, 7 Stone Under, 10 Easy Wishes etc. back in the day when all
of the lights worked properly...
and one time when 7SU were about to play and we made it all dark in drakes and me and alex (who is now the 7SU bass-player) put on some freaky music and stuff... and scared everyone... which was nice.

oh
and this one time, after an AUBL gig.... me, jimmy, nicky casino and *insert barman name who i cant remember here* stayed in drakes until about 6am... *ahem* *whistles innocently*

um....

seen a ton of ace bands...
seen some pretty bad ones...
been there when it's been rammed
been there when it's been empty
put on good gigs
put on (a few) rubbish ones

i could probably go on all day.... and night... about good times

but i think it's time too start looking forward

because i know that the drakes team would want us all to take what we've learnt from them and try and make a difference too... somehow... in whatever way possible... or something... i guess..

I think the first time I went to Drakes was The X-certs 2nd (maybe third) ever gig with Gilman Street, this was just after the new Drakes had opened I think. Some band pulled out at the last minute so Inept 303 were asked to play and Ross the drummer said they'd only play if they could go on last, so they did.

I think it was the first AUBL Poll:ution gig a few years back, that was fun, when Liber8 won.

Anyone remember the short lived sets from bands on a Saturday afternoon? That was fun.

Another memory was from just the other week when I actually had to queue outside with quite a few other people in order to get in to X-Certs gig, it was a case of one person out, one person in, that was fun.

Overall it was pretty fun.

The last Fishstock WBL played with Onion Terror, SEA and MDL (also the last time I played at Drake's) was awesome. Just a really cool vibe that was typical of the venue on a busy night.
I don't think I'll ever forget those weekly Fudge quiz shananagans either...
The loss of Drake's is such a tragic blow to Aberdeen's scene. I can't see it ever being the same again.

Old drakes:

- My 21st birthday party, which included splitting my head open on the bar after falling on a table, and performing a 20 minute long version of The Cramps' 'Human Fly' with Sam Addison.

- The In Decades Decline/We Become Less show. So, so awesome.

- Playing with a German band called Useless, who subsequently invited us to play with them the following night in Edinburgh. In THE ROUGHEST PUB IN THE WORLD. Still, Drakes was all about the international community of starving rock musicians, and they were amazingly funny guys for Germans.

- Numerous, incredibly drunken, ill-advised Wildhearts covers sets.

- All the old characters - Monty, Garth, Duckman etc.

- DJing Fudge's Guillotine night

New Drakes:

- Rat Daddy blowing the roof off the place when they played

- Ditto Five Horse Johnson

- Ditto Man Inc.

- Radio Lucifer's first gig.

Loads of people have said this, but Drakes really was a Rock Mecca to me and my friends. Radio Lucifer probably wouldn't exist without the place, given that we all played our first few shows with our previous bands on that hallowed stage. Where will the kids have their now?

Drunken, yes, ill advised, no. I had one of the best nights of my life at one of those gigs. Must have been xmastime 2001.

I still haven't gotten over losing old Drakes, never mind the "new" one.
