You seem to be looking at the idea from quite a negative viewpoint: a specialised sports website could offer different forums for different sports...even specific forums for local teams.

But there is a sense of community here, and people like to share their passion for sports with those people. A dedicated sports messageboard would likely be full of brainless oiks and people who sing celebratory songs about stadium disasters. That yob mentality is for the most part absent on here.

That's what moderators are for. Keep that attitude out, the same as unconstructive musical discussion is deleted in the discussion forums on A-M.

... I'm also thinking of Neil's pocket! New site etc etc would be hitting him pretty hard i reckon. Then the idea of having to moderate another site as well as this one... etc etc...

... and should we have another site altogether to deal with "Dolphin Slaughter", "Lost plotlines" and whatever else comes under general discussion??

The Sports forum is clearly defined and separated from the Music Forums. Dinna greet about it...

So what you are saying is that you support the idea of people interested in music discussing random issues in a General discussion section on a Music-Forum website

... but not the idea of people interested in music, discussing sports in a Sports section of a Music-Forum website.

Explain that one

Perhaps if we removed the Sports forum, and everyone discussed the Sports issues in the General Forum...? Would that keep you happy?

i don't really think spanisharmada actually wanted the people who run aberdeen-music to start a aberdeen-sport. i'm sure he was suggesting that one of the sports mad members with football players in their avatar give it a go!

Obviously it's going to cost more. I personally don't care about the sports. I'm just suggesting a way of making the website more focused and simple to use in a musical sense.

Also, comparing as wide a topic as sport to dolphin slaughter is a bit far out.
