Default pop up messages........
did anyone think it was better when private messages popped up on the screen? i find myself missing a few messages because you forget to check them....

Go to 'User CP', then 'Edit Options' and check the 'Show New Private Message Notification Pop-up' box. Is that what you mean?

Well answered Mr. Jack. The pop-up notification box is optional. You can re-activated by following the instructions above.

If you have re-activated it and it still doesn't appear to be working then check that your web browser is not blocking pop-ups.
