Has anyone read this? I heard it was the inspiration behind the TV show Lost and I've heard it's really good, but weird. I might pick up a copy and add it to the queue of books I plan to read...
Yep, it's a weird one alright. It made me look at cyclists in a different light though
I can't comment on the influence on Lost, other than in both of them you wonder what on Earth is going on.
I bought it a while ago and read a chapter or so then just lost the will to read the rest of it. I gave it to my mum to read and she thought it was a load of shite too.
It seems to be one of those you Love it or you hate it kind of deals, as all the reviews on Amazon are gushing.... I've ordered but I wont get it for a couple of weeks, I'll pass on my own thoughts when (or if) I get through it.
1 year on. I got as far as page 82 before deciding it was shite, I might have another crack at it though, it must get good sometime, what with all the good reviews, or maybe it's like the Emperors new clothes and everyone justpretends to get it to sound clever.

I know a guy who's doing his dissertation on it, he must like it if he can be arsed to write thousands of words about it

Hah, just because it's challenging doesn't mean it must be an Emperor's New Clothes kinda thing.
