SATURDAY 7 FEBRUARY 2009 AT THE MOORINGS:
HIDDEN LEAVES + BOYCOTTS + SUPER SIX FUNK MACHINE + DED RABBIT
HIDDEN LEAVES
MySpace.com - Hidden Leaves - Glasgow/Aberdeen, UK - Alternative / Ambient / Shoegaze - www.myspace.com/hiddenleavesuk
"The name Hidden Leaves is a rough English translation of Hagakure, the Japanese Samurai text by Yamamoto Tsunemoto. Melody and a wall of sound are the order of the day. No fads will be found here, rather the bleak tales of a band living in the cold, dark and grey North."
The band have been playing together in this form for around two years, but this will be their first visit to the Moorings Bar. If we must have a lazy comparision, perhaps you could imagine Mike Patton (tuneful mode) fronting Mars Volta.
BOYCOTTS
MySpace.com - Boycotts - Glasgow - Edinburgh, UK - Indie / Alternative / Pop - www.myspace.com/startaboycott
Boycotts formed a couple of months ago in Glasgow and are currently trying to find their feet. This task shouldn't present them with any problems though, as they appear to be a stunning mash of pop-rock, disco-rock and rock-rock, all smooshed-up in an Art School blender, with sing-a-long lyrics and tunes to get you dancing. I'll be fucking amazed if they don't go down a storm.
SUPER SIX FUNK MACHINE
MySpace.com - Super Six Funk Machine - UK - www.myspace.com/supersixfunkmachine
Little of them is known, other than that there's six of them (one is Colin fae Ghost Of Bongos), they're a god-damn funk machine, and they're almost certainly going to be super.
DED RABBIT
MySpace.com - Ded Rabbit - Tomintoul-Glenlivet/Aberdeen, UK - Rock / Rock / Rock - www.myspace.com/iamdedrabbit
A quick return to the bar for the sax-wielding funk-rockers from the hinterland: "We are four brothers who live on a farm in the middle of friggin' nowhere. We've been playing/writing music for about four years."
They've clearly had bugger all to do but practice for the last four years, because they're actually rather good.
