Hi Catherine,
Some good questions, I'll give it a go.
1. What gigs have you been to recently?
Explosions in the Sky (Glasgow), Drift Collective Showcase (Aberdeen), The Mars Volta (Glasgow) & Chris T-T (Edinburgh)
2. What gigs have you coming up?
Meursault (Aberdeen), Black Mountain (Glasgow), Mia Riddle (Aberdeen), Acoustic Ladyland (Aberdeen) & Spock's Beard (Glasgow)
3. How do you hear about gigs?
This website, bands' websites, through people who know people & gig posters
4. What do you think of the local music scene?
Aberdeen has a lot of artists making interesting and varied music, but a lot of good gigs are totally empty. Evidently, the biggest problem with this scene is not a lack of decent music, but a lack of gig attendence. Whether this is due to good old-fashioned consumer apathy or shit promotion is the key question, although there are very few promoters in this city who seem to consistently make enough of an effort.
5. Where do you socialise/ hang out?
Friend's houses, mostly. But sometimes pubs like Under the Hammer & The Bassment.
6. If it is a pub, what did you do before you were old enough?
Friend's houses or in the park.
7. Do you like Aberdeen?
I think Aberdeen gets a pretty harsh press most of the time, and usually from people who live here! I'm usually the one who'll stick up for the place in a conversation, because it's definitely got its good points. But take a short trip to Glasgow or Edinburgh and it becomes apparent that Aberdeen is woefully lacking in amenities.
8. Do you think Aberdeen needs another alt. Club, pub or venue?
Definitely something to fill the gap left by the Lemon Tree (although as we all know it's soon to reopen). Basically, somewhere that has a suitable atmosphere for jazz and folk gigs and is bigger than the Blue Lamp. Plus, another few cafes that put on live music (a la Kilau & Musa) would be nice.
9. Do you feel the current ones need to be improved?
Improvements to sound systems all round would be great. Moshulu could be a fantastic venue if it had a bit of a clean and a tidy up. But we've a few good venues in this town, something else that's not often appreciated.
10. Where do you buy your music from?
Generally either from Amazon or HMV (only because I get discount there). Occaisionally One-Up.
11. Where do you shop for clothes?
Not sure about the relevance of this question. I generally go to either Primark or Marks & Spencers. A lot of my t-shirts come from gigs, though.
