I think it's perfectly acceptable, perhaps even essential where one is performing to an audience composed entirely on deaf people.

The audience pays it's money and takes it's choice. There is no universal law decreeing that something like this is JUST PLAIN WRONG.
Better to perform things as they were intended rather than to contrive them, whether that involves miming OR actually playing live.
But, taking this to an extreme... would I personally pay to see someone prancing around their PC? Ha - that would probably depend on whether they were wearing any clothes
