Default Is it OK for bands to mime?

Calvin Harris last nite. What a gig!

But yeh there was a high NRG backing band made up of a bassist, a drumist and a guitarist, and another keyboardist. To me, they looked like they were playing and jumping around like mentalists - adding to the whole performance - but were they making any audible contribution to the massive programmed electrobeat sound that was coming at us from the soundsystem. Again, personal opinion only, but NO I dont theink they were. Were they props then? It worked anyway. Fucking great gig.

So if thats the case with electronic based acts - add a fake ''live band'' to mime to the pre-programmed wall of sound and just do the singing live - All to create the illusion of a live band. Is this OK? It was entertaining so I say it is. But thats me. If/when Ferrari Rocher play live we would ideally add live drums and live instruments to the preprogrammed element of the sound - but how much hassle is that??? - so would we be cunts if we did what Calvin Harris looks to be doing - very successfully. Hypothetically of course.

Eh?
