Default The Ignore Facility and other stories

The ignore facility it probably the best means of killing trolls. Trolls are immune to banning, but they die if people stop feeding them. Perhaps more people would consider using the ignore facility if it was 100% effective. The problems are:

1) When other people quote from an ignore person, you can still read the quoted extract. Ignore should censor the quote, a good solution would be to blank out the quoted text with asterisks.

2) If someone is subscribed to a thread and receiving email updates then they will also get emails containing the text of people they have set to ignore. Not good!

3) When someone on ignore PMs you, do they get a message back saying "you cannot PM this user because they have set you to ignore"? That would be a good idea.

4) When adding someone to ignore, there should be an option to notify that person that you are ignoring them.

5) How about a top twenty list of most ignore users to be accessable from one of the menus? this would make it much easier for new members to figure out who the trolls are.

6) When some one is set to ignore, you still get this tantalising message in the thread saying "Joe Bloggs has posted something but you have chosen to ignore them - tick here to unignore them and read all this shit they're probably saying about you". Perhaps there should be an option to completely skip the ignore posts. As a moderator in our forum I do need to see when a troll has posted (just so i can delete them), so personally I wouldn't use this feature, but for most other people it would probably be the preferred option.

I reckon that these steps would go a long way to cut down on the flaming, making it possible for each individual to tailor their view of the site in such a way as to eliminate their chosen assholes.

One more thing. It would be REALLY nice to be able to ban specific people from specific forums. For instance I would like to ban about half a dozen accounts, which is probably 2 people from The Moorings Bar forum. Another benefit of this would be the ability for the main site moderators to ban partial Trolls from places like the Wasteland. and of course bands could ban trolling enemies from their own forums.
