no, you're wrong, they were called tazo's, and you could not gamble with tazo's, all you could do was stick them together to make stupid shaped objects that you can't do anything with.

pogs you bought in packets. you played games with pogs and you gambled them, and it's the only gambling activity i've ever taken part in. i'm proud to say that i almost collected the entire second series without ever buying a packet of pogs.

they were banned from my school, which was pretty funny

my second most vivid memory of primary school is one time when this boy david wilson was carrying his pogs in a blue plastic container - and he had shitloads of them - and he dropped the container and they scattered all over the place. Then someone shouted 'SCRAMBLEEEEE' and he lost almost all of his pogs and burst out in tears. He then went round all the class rooms asking if anyone had his pogs and he didn't get a single one back.
